Polysomnographic Technician

A Polysomnographic Technician independently performs comprehensive polysomnographic (PSG) testing and analysis including appropriate therapy interventions

Essential Functions
  • Gather and Analyze Patient Information
  • Sleep Testing Preparation Procedures
  • Conduct Polysomnographic Protocols and Procedures during study
  • Polysomnographic Record Stage-Scoring

Minimum Requirements
Education required/ preferred: Some college preferred.

Certification Required: CPR, cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Experience: One year experience in polysomnographic testing required with demonstrated competencies upon hire; OR 6 months of experience as a PSG Trainee with successful completion of all company competency exams. Appropriate background experience includes respiratory therapy, END Technologist, EEG, EKG or related allied health fields.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Organized, self-motivated, effective oral and written communication skills, appropriate social skills, computer literate, PSG data acquisition systems experience, CPR or BCLS certified.

Organizational Relationships/Scope
This position will interface internally with technical staff, clerical staff, and executive and management staff as well as associated medical staff. External customers include referring physicians, patients and the community.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

An employee may be exposed to chemical vapors such as acetone and cleaning agents. The employee may also be exposed to infectious agents including blood-borne pathogens. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
